James Gunn has shared a new post on social media without much context, fueling more fan speculation about a possible fan favorite’s appearance in Superman. On Instagram, the director shared an image of a classic S emblem, and some fans believe that it represents the dog tag that will be used for Krypto’s collar in the upcoming film.

Without any context, it’s hard to say if the photo was even shared as a way of teasing Gunn’s Superman film, or if it was just a way of paying tribute to the iconic character. Gunn recently celebrated Superman Day by sharing a new image from the set looking at classic Superman comic books with actors David Corenswet (Clark Kent) and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane). While his intentions are not clear, Gunn is getting a lot of fans talking about what the post might mean, which may have also been part of what the filmmaker was going for.

Zack Snyder Considered Leonardo DiCaprio for Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman

Leonardo DiCaprio had the opportunity to become a supervillain in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman.

Officially, there hasn’t been an indication that Krypto will be a part of Superman. However, Gunn previously joked about featuring the character in the movie with Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt playing the role. After Gunn told the actor, “I was hoping I could cast you as Krypto,” Pratt said, “So, it sounds like there’s going to be a character called Krypto in Superman.” Gunn notably didn’t say that would not be happening, joking along that “it’s a scoop” that Krypto will be featured.

However, fans should not be getting their hopes up for seeing all of the Super Pets popping up in Superman. There have also been fan theories that Streaky the Supercat would be appearing in the movie, Gunn threw cold water on that idea by saying in December that there were no plans to feature Streaky in the DCU “in the near future.” Even if that’s true, however, the door still seems to be open for Krypto to have some kind of presence in Superman.
