James Gunn’s highly anticipated DC Universe arrives tomorrow with the release of “Creature Commandos” on MAX. After the conclusion of Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, fans have been waiting for Gunn’s new vision to begin.
Gunn is known for making the Guardians of the Galaxy a household name despite being a relatively unknown team, and movie films everywhere are expecting Gunn to breathe new life into unknown teams like the Creature Commandos and iconic heroes like Batman and Superman alike.

The series features the voice talents of fan favorites Viola Davis, returning as Amanda Waller; Alyn Tudyk, as Dr. Phosphorous and Clayface; and David Harbour, as Eric Frankenstein. Other cast members include Maria Bakalova as Ilana Rostovic, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Indira Varma as the Bride of Frankenstein, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Sean Gunn as both G.I. Robot and Weasel.
The Creature Commandos were originally introduced to the world in 1980 in an issue of Weird Tales. Even some diehard comic book fans were unfamiliar with the team prior to “Creature Commandos” being announced, but with Gunn’s track record, fans are excited to learn more about these intriguing characters.
How Will ‘Creature Commandos’ Connect to Gunn’s DCU?

Through Amanda Waller, Clayface, Rick Flag Sr., Weasel, and John Economos, “Creature Commandos” connects its team to other memorable characters in the DC Universe. Waller is known for using criminals and metahumans to her advantage through her involvement with the Suicide Squad, but it remains to be seen exactly what her goal will be with the Creature Commandos.
While “The Suicide Squad” and “Peacemaker” are technically not part of the new DC Universe, Gunn has said that they are “light canon.” With Waller, Weasel, and Economos previously appearing in these projects, “Creature Commandos” helps acclimate viewers to the new setting.
For added continuity, Rick Flag Jr. previously appeared in “The Suicide Squad,” and Clayface is one of the most iconic members of Batman’s rogues’ gallery. Clayface was a fan favorite in the recently released “Suicide Squad Isekai,” and with Tudyk providing his voice in “Creature Commandos,” Clayface fans will not be disappointed with his arrival in the DC Universe.
Gunn has confirmed that all TV shows, video games, and movies in the DC Universe will be connected, and fans are extremely excited for the official beginning of Gunn’s vision with the release of “Creature Commandos.” With “Superman” on the way, DC fans are ready, and “Creature Commandos” promises to be a preview of the bright future ahead.
