On Superman Day, fans of the legendary DC Comics character eagerly awaited updates about the upcoming film, set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Instead of a traditional trailer, they were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the immense effort behind the movie, featuring exclusive footage of heroes and villains from the new DC Universe.
In the trailer, James Gunn reflects on his childhood love for Superman, saying, “Being a child, I loved the purity of Superman. It was a time when I was starting to understand what movies were,” accompanied by clips of Christopher Reeve’s classic Superman.
A heartfelt tribute to comic book history
The trailer offers glimpses of David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult as Superman and Lex Luthor during filming breaks, as well as Rachel Brosnahan showcasing the Daily Planet set as Lois Lane.
It also introduces Hawkgirl and Metamorpho, classic heroes making their big-screen debut, highlighting Gunn’s dedication to honoring the comic book legacy. Gunn is even seen interacting with one of the robots from the Fortress of Solitude. The cast praises Gunn’s direction, with Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner, noting, “James tells stories with heart.”
