Jason Momoa is back in the DC Universe.
The actor previously played Aquaman in various DC Comic movies. But now a new film from the superhero franchise is set to have him take on a different role.
James Gunn’s Superman film recently released its first trailer ahead of its 2025 release. It’s set to be a reboot of the Superman film series and create a DC Universe (DCU), with another upcoming film being Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Deadline confirmed that Jason will be playing Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl flick. On Monday, Jason shared a post on Instagram that was a screenshot of a previous comment he made about expressing interest in playing the role.

“So Lobo was…I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,” the quote read. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f— yeah. I haven’t recieved that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”
The actor captioned the screenshot with a simple: “They called.” Fans took to the comments section of the post to congratulate the Aquaman star on his new role and share their excitement.
“Pleeeeeeeease let it stay true to the comics – already looking forward to this!!” one fan wrote. Another added: “Out of every single exciting DC project they’ve announced or eluded to. THIS IS THE ONE THAT MAKES ME THE MOST EXCITED! Congratulations!!!!!”
A third joked: “You’re the Chris Evans of the DCU! Get after it!!” That references how Chris Evans played the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies Marvel put out and then later starred as Captain America.
Lobo is an antihero in the well-known comic book series who has superhuman strength and regenerative abilities. With a violent and off-the-cuff personality, Lobo is a bounty hunter who thrives off chaos and hails from the planet Czarnia.
Little is known about the plot of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow or the film’s release date. However, Milly Alcock of House of the Dragon fame is set to play the titular hero, while Matthias Schoenaerts is the villain Krem, and Eve Ridley will play the role of Rythye Mary Knolle.
