Warning: Spoilers for Gotham City Sirens #1
Summary
Gotham City Sirens
#1.
Punchline, a Joker-inspired maniac, presents a lethal new threat to Harley Quinn and Gotham.
Harley is not alone this time, as she teams up with Poison Ivy and Catwoman in the battle against Punchline.
The rematch DC fans have been waiting for is finally in the works as the Joker’s girlfriend, Punchline, prepares for a fight against Harley Quinn. The first time the two fought, Punchline wiped the floor with Harley. Ever since that moment, fans have been waiting for Harley to get her revenge rematch — and it looks like the time has come.
A new epidemic is blooming in Gotham, and only Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman seem to notice. Strange video-game-like havoc is being wrought in Gotham City Sirens #1 by Leah Williams and Matteo Lolli, and it has links to a suspicious new energy drink called XO Punch — and, of course, there’s only one woman who could be behind everything.
The perpetrator beyond this chaos is what the Sirens are teaming up to figure out — but fans get a first glimpse of the villain herself on the final page of the issue after she finishes a brutal video game stream. It’s none other than the Joker’s girlfriend, Punchline, and she’s back for another rematch against Harley and another Gotham-wide scheme.
Harley Quinn Officially Calls Out the #1 Problem with Every Superhero in History
With a therapist’s perspective, Harley Quinn has some notes for the heroes of the DC Universe: maybe some more therapy, a little less punching?
Punchline’s History with the Joker Makes Her Just as Cruel
Variant Cover by Jeehyung Lee for Gotham City Sirens #4
Punchline, the Joker might say, is an improvement on Harley Quinn. While Harley seemed to represent the goofy side of the Joker, Punchline exacerbated his lethal side. She’s a character that has no pedestrian background, like Harley with her PhD in Psychology. Punchline is a maniac, through and through, not afraid to slit throats, which is something that Harley now refuses to do despite her violent past. The first time the two women faced each other in Batman #93 by James Tynion IV and Guillem March, Harley didn’t end up on top but instead with a red slash across her throat
Gotham City Sirens
is a four-issue series running weekly in August 2024; issue #2 is available now from DC Comics.
Ever since that tragic moment, fans have been waiting for Harley to get a chance to show why she’s a fan-favorite character. While Punchline might just be more dangerous than the Joker, Harley Quinn is nothing to laugh at, and she’s only grown from her time as a villain. She’s smart, strong, and can match the acrobatics of the Joker’s girlfriend. Seeing Punchline as the surprise villain of the Gotham City Sirens means only one thing: a rematch is undoubtedly coming before the end of the miniseries.
Punchline Is Bound to Take on Harley Quinn Once Again
The Gotham City Sirens Are on Punchline’s Trail
This time, Harley has some friends on her side: her girlfriend Poison Ivy and friendly ally Catwoman. Maybe Harley would be able to defeat Punchline single-handedly, but being a hero means not having to. As part of the Bat-Family, she’s got a step-up on Punchline — because Harley Quinn isn’t alone anymore. She’s got friends, and these Gotham City Sirens are going to help her come out on top in this long-awaited rematch.
