Actor Jason Momoa didn’t wait long after James Gunn became co-CEO of DC Studios to pitch himself as Lobo for the DC Universe.
In a recent post on Instagram, Gunn revealed that he received a text from Momoa “on the morning it was announced Peter [Safran] & I were the heads of DC Studios.” The text, which Gunn shared a screenshot of in the post, simply read, “fucking LOBO.”
Momoa texting Gunn as soon as possible to pitch himself as Lobo shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans of the actor, who has spoken publicly in the past about his desire to play the alien bounty hunter in a live-action DC project. Momoa’s dreams finally came true in December 2024 when he was officially announced to be playing Lobo in the upcoming DCU movie Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow.
Momoa has already filmed most, if not all of his scenes, according to Gunn’s caption on the Instagram post, which states that the DC head has “loved watching Jason bring him to life & can’t wait to share that with all of you.” It’s unclear how large of a role Momoa will have in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow given that Lobo wasn’t in the movie’s source material, Tom King’s 2022 comic book series of the same name.
Ana Nogueira adapted the miniseries, which follows a 21-year-old Kara Zor-El as she travels across the galaxy with Krypto, during which she meets a young girl named Ruthye and goes on a murderous quest for revenge, for the big screen. Craig Gillespie is directing, with Milly Alcock starring as the title character.
The Supergirl cast also includes David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s parents, Matthias Schoenaerts as antagonist Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026, as the second film of the DCU.
