Warning! Spoilers ahead for Action Comics #1067!Lois Lane may love Superman, but she’s finally putting her new job first. Along with all the other big changes in Metropolis, Lois now finds herself running the Daily Planet as its new editor-in-chief. As part of her responsibilities, Lois is making big changes in regard to the paper’s relationship with the Man of Steel.

In Action Comics #1067’s backup story “Lois & Clark: In Love. At Work. Part One” by Rainbow Rowell and Cian Tormey, Lois is facing a crisis of confidence in her job. Clark reassures her and tells her to do the job like she’d do it, not like Perry White.

After Clark returns from stopping an attack by Atomic Skull, Lois calls her husband into her office. Lois reveals that she’s removing Clark from covering Superman stories, citing a ‘conflict of interest’. Lois assigns a newly promoted intern to the Superman beat, saying her decision is final as the paper’s editor-in-chief.

Lois Lane Has Stopped Clark Kent From Covering Superman News

The Daily Planet has long been a part of Superman and Lois Lane’s life. But the newspaper went through a big change when Perry White suffered a stroke (caused by Lex Luthor using Manchester Black to erase the knowledge of Superman’s identity from the public). White stepped down on medical leave and while he recovered, Lois began running the paper. What was assumed to be a temporary position wound up becoming long-term when Perry threw his hat into the ring and ran for Mayor of Metropolis. Despite thinking she wasn’t a good fit, Lois has kept The Daily Planet afloat.

While Lois has had her difficulties with the paper, this is the first big conflict she’s faced, at least as far as she and Superman are concerned. While Perry had no problem with Clark covering Superman news, Lois wants to hold the paper to a higher standard, and that starts by taking an honest look at the ethics of Clark’s reporting. Lois is, after all, one of the best reporters in the DC Universe and values truth in journalism. But now that she’s running The Daily Planet, Lois has to make hard calls, even if it means going against Superman.

Will This Change Things Between Lois and Superman?

Clark is obviously miffed, as the Superman beat has been his for years. But when it comes to news, Clark knows that Lois always makes the right call. Sure, it’s a change from how things used to run under Perry White. But it’s like Clark said, Lois needs to run the paper her way. If she believes it’s best for the paper, then Clark is no doubt going to support her decision. He might have to find a new beat to cover, but Superman knows Lois Lane made the right call.
