New Game In The DC Universe In The Works

A recent job listing by WB Games Montreal, a studio deeply rooted in AAA DC games, has sneakily revealed they are now developing a new game within the DC Universe.

The job listing itself has now been changed, removing all references to the DC game in the works. Still, the posting initially stated that they are looking for a Senior Producer who will be “working on AAA titles set in the DC Comics Universe.”

Details around the job help us understand a few things about the upcoming game set in the DC universe. Although nothing else has been officially stated about this game, we already have many ideas about what it could be, especially following the studio’s launch of Gotham Knights in 2022.

People had quite a few critiques about WB Games Montreal’s previous game, Gotham Knights, but at the very least, fans were happy to see a huge tag team superhero game without in-game microtransactions.

Between Marvel’s Avengers and this year’s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, we have been bombarded with egregious live-service models in superhero games. However, with Gotham Knights kicking microtransactions to the curb, we’re hoping WB Games Montreal will do something similar in their next game.

Also, it wouldn’t be surprising if the next title is set within the Batman lineage of games, be it Gotham Knights 2 or something entirely different. Yet some critics say the Gotham Knights didn’t live up to the Rocksteady titles, so we’re curious if they may go down a completely different path.

In particular, some fans have asked for games set elsewhere in the DC Universe, such as a brand new Superman game or something based on a side character like Green Arrow. All these rumors have one theme in common: fans truly want another single-player game from the studio.

As many of us remember, Gotham Knights was ostracized for not reaching past 30fps on current-gen consoles. We hope this issue is fixed in the following game, which should attempt to optimize performance a little better.

The job listings state that the workers must have a good understanding of Unreal Engine, which coincides with WB Games Montreal’s announcement that the following game will switch to Unreal Engine 5.

We’re happy to see another title from this studio in the works, Batman or otherwise, and excited about what brand-new experience they have in store for us.
