The following contains major spoilers for Nightwing #122, on sale now from DC Comics.

Nightwing just got an exceptionally rude awakening about why he has been working on his own.

After a disastrous encounter with the high-tech, heavily armed soldiers of Spheric Solutions senselessly cost the life of a young Bludhaven gangster, the titular hero of Nightwing #122 finds himself having a particularly difficult discussion with both the city’s mayor, Melinda Zucco, and the head of its police department, Commissioner Sawyer. While the hero is quick to lay into the ways in which the city’s open embrace of Spheric Solutions’ overtly lethal tactics has made things more dangerous, he isn’t the only one with some pointed observations to make. As Commissioner Sawyer reminds Nightwing, he hasn’t exactly been playing by the rules himself, which might just be why the rest of his team haven’t been seen in Bludhaven in recent months, even if it is supposed to be their home.

The city of Bludhaven has been a part of the DC Universe since Dick Grayson decided to make it his new home in the pages of 1996’s Nightwing #1 by Chuck Dixon and Scott McDaniel. Nestled between Gotham and Atlantic City, Bludhaven was the perfect place for Dick to lay down roots of his own as Nightwing. In the years since its debut, Bludhaven has become a more and more prominent locale, with key moments from events such as Infinite Crisis taking place in and reshaping the city entirely.

2023’s oversized Nightwing #100 by Tom Taylor, Bruno Redondo, Scott McDaniel, Rick Leonardi, Eddy Barrows, Javier Fernandez, Mikel Janín, Karl Story, Eber Ferreira, Caio Filipe, Joe Prado, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott marked a major move for the Titans, as Nightwing had the entire Titans Tower relocated to Bludhaven to serve as the team’s new base of operations. At the time, the Titans were serving as the world’s premiere superhero team in the wake of the Justice League being disbanded. Although the Titans served dutifully as such, the need for a wider heroic presence ultimately led to the formation of the Justice League Unlimited, which the members of the Titans serve as well as their own organization.

One of DC’s Most Powerful Villains is Officially the Most Important Green Lantern

An unexpected DC villain is the only thing standing between the Green Lanterns’ greatest asset and the rest of the universe.

The high-tech weapons manufacturer known as Spheric Solutions and their CEO, Olivia Pearce, first appeared in the only a few issues ago in the pages of Nightwing #119. Although the corporation came to Bludhaven under the guise of hoping to help usher in new eras of both peace and prosperity, it quickly became apparent that something was not quite right with what they were selling. As Nightwing has since discovered, Pearce herself is a member of the ominous Cirque du Sin, while Spheric Solutions as a whole is merely the face of the villainous organization’s unnerving operations.

Batman

Batman is one of the oldest comic superheroes, with nearly a century of comics, TV-shows, films, and video games. The mild-mannered Bruce Wayne becomes Gotham City’s caped crusader, protecting it from villains like The Joker, Killer Croc, The Penguin, and more. Batman is also one of DC comics’ “Big Three” alongside Superman and Wonder Woman, and together the three help keep the earth safe as founding members of the Justice League.
