Nightwing may have just hinted at the Bat-Family’s next member, and if you’re a fan of his loyal puppy Haley, you’re bound to fall for this potential addition. What makes this new furry companion even more intriguing is their origin—eerily similar to Haley’s yet with a disturbingly unique twist. Now, all eyes are on the Original Boy Wonder to see if he’ll decide to officially welcome this little creature into the fold.
Dick rescued Haley from her harmful environment, it seems likely he will do the same for the rabbit.
With the full release of Nightwing #120 set for November 27, 2024, DC has unveiled a four-page preview of Dan Watters and Dexter Soy’s latest installment. Picking up where #119 left off, Dick Grayson faces Spheric Solutions’ deadly security system after a breaking-and-entering investigation goes sideways.
In true Boy Wonder fashion, he outmaneuvers the advanced defenses and dismantles a massive rolling ball of death using his upgraded laser-shooting escrima sticks. But inside the device, he discovers a frightened rabbit, instantly tugging at Dick’s bleeding heart and showcasing his unwavering compassion even in the heat of battle.
Nightwing #120 Teases That Dick Grayson May Be Getting a New Pet

I’m a huge fan of bunnies, so the moment I saw the frightened creature, I couldn’t help but coo and want to help it—and based on Dick’s reaction, he felt the same. Before discovering the rabbit inside the ball of death, Dick had been tearing into the metal shell with zest. However, the moment he saw the small creature curled up inside, hooked to wires and electrodes, his self-assured, thrill-seeking demeanor shifted instantly. Faced with a distressed animal in need, his first instinct was to help.
This compassion was clear when an explosion, deliberately set off by Spheric Solutions’ CEO, sent the weaponized ball hurtling across the room. Dick raced after it and, upon finding the rabbit relatively unharmed, approached it with his weapons lowered. He gently said, “I’m sorry… You must be scared.” This heartfelt moment showcased Dick’s defining empathy, as he responded not with anger or disregard—even though the implication was that the rabbit had just been controlling the ball of death trying to kill him—but with understanding and care.
While the idea of this abused rabbit becoming the next member of the Bat-Family might seem like a leap, the context of this interaction strongly suggests that this could be Watters and Soy’s intention. For one, it’s hard to imagine Dick leaving the rabbit in Spheric Solutions’ hands after what he’s seen. Secondly, this isn’t a situation where he can simply hand the animal over to animal control, given the experiments conducted on it and the potential danger it poses to itself or others. The most logical conclusion? Dick is taking a bunny home by the end of this issue.
Meet Nightwing’s Terrifying New Nemesis in First Look at Dick Grayson’s New Era
Nightwing’s new creative team is already laying the groundwork for an unforgettable storyline, with the lead artist teasing the story’s main villain.
Haley and the Spheric Solutions’ Rabbit Have More In Common Than You Might Think
Haley First Appeared in Nightwing #78 (2021)
The introduction of the rabbit is strikingly reminiscent of the first time Dick met Haley, as both animals were found by Dick while he was out as Nightwing, each in a state of distress and abuse. Haley was physically abused, and similarly, the rabbit has clearly been experimented on—another form of physical abuse. Granted, the rabbit’s situation is a little more nuanced and unnerving, but the parallels remain. Hence, just as Dick rescued Haley from her harmful environment, it seems likely he will do the same for the rabbit.
Meet the Official Pets of the Bat-Family: A Quick Rundown
Titus, Alfred the Cat, and Bat-Cow in Robin: Son of Batman #9 (2016)
If Dick does end up taking the rabbit home, it will add another pet to the Bat-Family. Currently, there are seven animals that are part of the Bat-Family: Goliath the bat-dragon, Ace the bat-hound, Damian’s great dane Titus, Alfred the cat, Jerry the turkey, Bat-Cow, and Haley. Adding the rabbit would bring the total to eight pets, making the already impressive number of animals in the Bat-Family even more absurd. However, Batman can hardly blame Nightwing and Robin for their adoption tendencies, considering they’ve likely inherited this habit from their father, who has adopted nearly as many children.
