Dan Mora, an acclaimed comic book artist currently working on DC Comics’ biggest titles, has offered his rendition of Son Goku from Dragon Ball with the Man of Steel. Mora’s phenomenal artwork comes as Dragon Ball celebrates its 40th anniversary and Superman prepares to enter a new era under James Gunn with its July 2025 movie.
Mora shared his crossover fan art between Dragon Ball and Superman on X (formerly Twitter). “I’ve been watching too much Dragon Ball,” Mora said online. The artwork features Goku as a child with his Power Pole in hand and the Eternal Dragon in the background. Superman is drawn in his traditional appearance — red boxers and all.

Superman’s Dan Mora Reveals His Take on Dragon Ball’s Kid Goku
Mora’s most recent works include Superman, Justice League Unlimited and numerous variant cover artworks for series like DC’s Absolute lineup. However, the San José, Costa Rica, artist is also celebrated for his run on Boom! Studios’ Go Go Power Rangers as an artist, penciler and inker. At DC Comics, Mora continues to work on various high-profile series, such as Absolute Power and Batman/Superman: World’s Finest. He’s illustrated Superman’s new appearance inspired by Gunn’s upcoming live-action movie starring David Corenswet, soon to be released on July 11, 2025, alongside Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight. Mark Waid, the writer of Justice League Unlimited and Mora’s co-creative partner, called Mora “the greatest artist alive” at WonderCon 2025.
Dragon Ball and DC fans praise Mora’s illustrated take on these two legendary heroes. “This is as close to an official DC Dragon Ball crossover as we will get, and I love it,” one fan said on X. “Man, that is like one of the best young Gokus I’ve ever seen,” said another. “It looks like he drew Superman’s hair to emulate how hair looks in Dragon Ball, and if that’s the case, I will record myself doing a cartwheel,” one fan noted. “Beautiful artwork of my two favorite characters in fiction by one of the most gifted artists of our time.”

Comparisons between Superman and Goku from Dragon Ball are far from new and often lead fans to fun “what if” discussions about which is the strongest. The similarities between the two grew even stronger after the 2018 anime movie, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, where Bardock and Gine saved their son from their dying home planet in a manner unmistakably similar to how Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van saved their son from Krypton. In Dr. Slump, Akira Toriyama offered his humorous take on Superman with Sourman (Suppaman), a non-super and non-heroic hero who “transforms” by eating a pickled plum.
The Dragon Ball Super manga can be read digitally via Viz Media and the Manga Plus app. “Having defeated Buu, Goku is starting to get bored with his life on Earth,” the series’ official description reads. “His wife, Chi-chi, wants him to get a job, but he only wants to train and fight stronger enemies. Elsewhere in the universe, the God of Destruction, Beerus, and his attendant, Whis, travel from planet to planet in search of food and entertainment. After blowing up some hapless victims, Beerus is reminded of a man from his dreams with the moniker ‘Super Saiyan God,’ or something like that… The God of Destruction sets his sights on Earth to track down this mysterious man! Maybe this will give Goku something to do?”
