One of the popular fan-castings for Wonder Woman in James Gunn’s DC Universe gets imagined through new art as the next live-action Diana Prince. While the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate is rebooting various Justice League heroes for DC Studios, Wonder Woman’s status is still a mystery. Outside of a prequel series, Paradise Lost, which is still in the development stages, a Wonder Woman solo movie has yet to be announced from DC Studios.
While DC Studios have yet to cast their new Wonder Woman, Adria Arjona has been a popular choice to play Wonder Woman in Gunn’s DCU franchise. To show what she would look like as Wonder Woman, SmartSheep Art shared new DCU artwork of Arjona as the iconic Amazon hero. Check it out below:
The version of Wonder Woman that was used was based on the Absolute Wonder Woman from DC’s new Absolute universe, following the comic book company’s Absolute title launch in 2024. When it comes to Arjona as Wonder Woman, the Andor star has actually shared with the world that she is not against that casting idea.
At a recent A Minecraft Movie premiere (via DC Latino America,) the actress was seen being asked by a fan about playing Wonder Woman in the DCU, to which she shrugged. However, Arjona quickly stressed that fans should start reaching out to Gunn about it.
What The Adria Arjona As Wonder Woman Art Means For The DCU
Given how iconic of a character Wonder Woman is, it’s not a shock that fans want to see how the DCU timeline will be dealing with Diana as part of Gunn’s reboot. With Wonder Woman also being one of the biggest roles for DC Studios to cast – whenever the time comes around – fans are going to make their voices heard about who they think should get tapped for the role. Now that Arjona has responded to fans’ desire to see her get cast as Wonder Woman in the DCU, it’s no surprise that artwork pieces are emerging more than ever of her as Diana.
What is also interesting about Arjona’s Wonder Woman fan art is that the Absolute Wonder Woman version of the heroine is slowly becoming a preferred iteration that fans want to see brought to life in the DCU. It may also indicate that the DCU could also benefit from using DC’s Absolute Wonder Woman, while taking the heroine in a new direction on the big-screen, following the DCEU movie timeline. It would also be a way for DC Studios to separate themselves from the DCEU as much as possible by using a newer take on Wonder Woman.
Why Adria Arjona Would Be A Great DCU Wonder Woman Casting
Adria Arjona’s acting history certainly supports the idea that she’d be a capable DC Universe Wonder Woman casting in for the new franchise. With a history that includes movies and shows in a range of genres, it’s clear Arjona would be capable of making her iteration of Diana Prince fit a range of tones, which is an especially helpful concept for a wide-reaching franchise like the DCU, where actors would likely appear in several very different releases – especially the actors playing the “Big Three” of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.
Arjona has also appeared in other major franchises, perhaps most notably via her role as Bix Caleen in Andor, giving her experience with interconnected and wide-reaching on-screen worlds that could put her in good stead with the DCU. Adria Arjona did notably play the role of Martine Bancroft in the Sony Spider-Man Universe’s less well-regard Morbius, which suggests a DC Universe casting could also be interesting to fans as a chance to see Arjona in some potentially less divisive releases.
Over the course of an acting career that has seen her play everything from a mermaid to Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz adaptation Emerald City, it seems Adria Arjona has created a history that could naturally suit a role like Wonder Woman, which is naturally action-heavy but also hinges around quite a lot more than this alone. With Arjona’s prior roles also seeing her act in the same releases as Jason Momoa – now the DCU’s Lobo – and popular Batman fancast Glen Powell, this could also ensure some on-screen reunions that might enable better rapport between the characters themselves as well.
Our Take On The Adria Arjona As Wonder Woman Art
Seeing how incredible Arjona would look as Wonder Woman, it would be fun to see what she would do if she got cast as Diana for DC Studios. Whether or not DC Studios will utilize a more classic Wonder Woman or take from the Absolute Wonder Woman mythology remains to be seen, as very little is known about her lore in the DCU timeline. Hopefully, more updates about Wonder Woman’s future in the DCU will start to emerge sooner rather than later.
DC Universe
The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
