Since Scott Eastwood never came back for Suicide Squad 2 to play his mystery DC character, the door is still open for the actor to join James Gunn’s DC Universe in his dream DC role. Eastwood is the son of one of the most influential actors and filmmakers in history, Clint Eastwood. The actor has appeared in quite a few action films over the years, showing his prowess in the genre. However, Scott Eastwood has so far not been called by Gunn to join the DCU’s Chapter One, even though he was already at DC previously.
Eastwood was part of director David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. The 2016 movie saw the actor play Lieutenant GQ Edwards. The character was Rick Flag’s right-hand man during the Suicide Squad’s mission in Midway City. Interestingly, the fate of Eastwood’s DC character seemed to be set in stone at the end of the movie. In order to take down Incubus, Edwards set up a major explosion that seemingly took out not only the villain, but also El Diablo and Edwards himself. However, a new update has given new context to Eastwood’s DC fate and how his dream DCU canon character is still possible.
DC Could Have Been Hiding A Better Role For The Star
While it seemed like Eastwood’s time in the DCEU ended with his first movie, that was not originally the plan. Speaking to ScreenRant, Scott Eastwood revealed he was meant to play a mystery role in Suicide Squad 2. The actor was supposed to come back for director David Ayer’s sequel, but since that film never happened and DC chose to move forward with James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, the plans to have Eastwood come back were abandoned. According to the DCEU actor, he would have taken on a new character.

Some Marvel and DC movies have not been as good as expected, but they still managed to deliver impactful fight scenes that are truly great.
Scott Eastwood’s explanation for DC’s plans revealed that GQ Edwards was not the true identity of his Suicide Squad character. According to the star, there were many discussions about how to bring him back and which character Edwards could turn out to be in the end. However, since Suicide Squad 2 never ended up happening, DC did not settle which character Eastwood was meant to play. Eastwood also thinks more of his character is in Ayer’s director’s cut of Suicide Squad, so perhaps some teases of his identity could come if Ayer ever manages to get the film released. Check out the full quote below:
“I know that there was talk about making me into another character and coming back. It just… David Ayer didn’t direct that next film then. I was like, ‘Look, let’s just see. Let’s see what the next thing holds. Is it a cool character? Who is it?’ And that never came around because he didn’t direct the film, so it was a different movie… They were just talking about who he (GQ Edwards) could come back as, and we could make him somebody and this and that, and they hadn’t really landed on any of that.”
Scott Eastwood Was Rumored To Be Playing Nightwing In The DCEU
Dick Grayson Never Appeared In The Franchise
Eastwood’s comments are interesting, as there were many rumors regarding whom the actor could be playing when he was cast in Suicide Squad. The star’s minor role as GQ Edwards ended up being disappointing, as speculation had circled on how Eastwood could be playing a major DC character undercover. However, now that the actor has revealed that Ayer had plans to make his Suicide Squad character someone else in a possible sequel, perhaps there was some truth to the rumors that DC considered Eastwood for Nightwing, which could have been who Edwards would turn out to be.
There was an easy way to make both characters the same, as the Grayson comic book series from DC could explain. In that storyline, Dick Grayson’s death was faked so he could infiltrate a top-secret organization that spied on superheroes, Spyral. Since director Zack Snyder claimed Dick was the Robin who was shown to have died in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, that could have been a ploy by the Dark Knight. Bruce Wayne knew what Amanda Waller was doing with the Suicide Squad, so having Dick infiltrate the team as GQ Edwards and report back could have worked.
Scott Eastwood’s Ideal DCU Hero Is Batman Himself
The Actor Has Commented On Playing Bruce Wayne
If the Nightwing rumors had any truth to them, Eastwood coming back in Suicide Squad 2 as Dick Grayson would have most likely ruined the actor’s chances of playing his dream DC role. During his conversation with ScreenRant, Scott Eastwood revealed that the character he would like to play in James Gunn’s DC Universe is Batman. If rumors had panned out and Eastwood gave life to Dick Grayson in the DCEU, it would have been hard to see the studio opting to use the same actor for Batman. However, as it stands, nothing plays against Eastwood’s DCU Batman chances.
Batman has made his first DCU appearance in the animated Creature Commandos series, though no actor has been cast at this time.
At 38, Scott Eastwood is seven years older than DCU Superman actor David Corenswet. That is not too much, and it allows Eastwood to fit the version of Batman the DCU will have, which is a Bruce Wayne with a whole Bat-Family and father to the young Damian Wayne. Eastwood said the role was interesting to him because of Bruce’s two very different lives. The actor would be able to do great with both the playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne, as seen in I Want You Back, and Batman’s dark persona, which Scott Eastwood‘s multiple serious action roles show.
