Acclaimed comic book writer Scott Snyder recently revealed a sentimental gift he received from his wife, Jeanie. The Absolute Batman scribe got a comic book store-themed candle from his better half.

Snyder shared an image of the heartwarming gift on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the caption, “My wife bought a candle for me that’s supposed to capture the scent of a comic store.” The Rami Mekdachi-founded French candle and fragrance company produced the candle, labeled “The Comic Store of George 9.” With comic stores and retailers presently going through a rough patch, Snyder will attempt to do his bit to save a cultural cornerstone (weekly visits by fans to their local comic book shops) with the successful launch and staying power of his upcoming All-In DC Comics initiative.

DC’s New Justice League Promo Cards Arrive This Fall

DC Comics promotes its upcoming All-In initiative by unveiling brand-new Justice League membership cards.

Snyder and Joshua Williamson’s DC initiative will launch the brand-new Absolute Universe that will tie in with a new Darkseid-centric storyline for all the publisher’s current titles, beginning this October. Following the Absolute Power crossover event that sees DC’s premiere superheroes face off against Amanda Waller’s Trinity of Evil, DC All-In Special #1 will add the dictator of Apokolips for good measure, leading to the seismic event that will create the new Absolute universe.

DC’s Absolute Comics, with its own continuity, will run parallel to the regular DC Universe. Both will tie together in a few years. Current DC’s titles will have jumping-on points next month, featuring brand-new creative teams on several titles, including Action Comics, Detective Comics, Titans, Batman and Robin, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, and Catwoman.

Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s bold new take on the Dark Knight in Absolute Batman will also hit comic shelves in October. The writer recently participated in a Reddit AMA, answering fan questions about the Caped Crusader’s upcoming book and the DC All-In initiative. Responding to one user asking Snyder what to expect from Batman’s rogues in the ongoing Absolute book, he stated, “Yes! You’ll see them VERY early. And they’re all very very different – but issue 1 addresses a bunch.” In another answer Snyder issued regarding the Riddler, he teased “Eddie appears early in the series, though most likely not as you expect.”

In another recent interview, Snyder stated the objective of DC’s All-In initiative. “The goal is to celebrate every kind of superhero storytelling at once,” he said. “My belief and the belief of, I think, most creators and editors and everybody there was that if we could do both of those things together at the same time, we’d have an incredible seismic moment and initiative that embraced all kinds of readers.”

Snyder’s All-In DC initiative officially kicks off with DC All-In Special #1, which arrives on October 2, 2024.
