Colin Farrell may be headed to the DCU.
Farrell played Oswald “Oz” Cobb in 2022’s The Batman and the 2024 HBO spin-off series, The Penguin. He’s expected to reprise that role in the sequel to The Batman, which will be released in 2027.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrell is in talks to play another DC Comics character: Sgt. Rock.
Sgt. Rock is a forthcoming movie that will be set within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, meaning it takes place within a different continuity than Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise. Sgt. Rock is being directed by Luca Guadagnino, who recently made Challengers and Queer in 2024.
Farrell’s casting has not been confirmed at this time; rather, The Hollywood Reporter’s article notes that he’s currently “in negotiations” to star in Sgt. Rock.
“The move indeed puts Rock on track for a shoot this summer in DC Studios’ production hub in England,” the article further reads. “If a deal makes, Farrell would play the tough-as-nails leader of Easy Company, the combat unit fighting Nazi forces in Europe.”
Daniel Craig, who starred in Guadagnino’s Queer, was previously believed to be circling the Sgt. Rock role. Craig officially bowed out of the project in February 2025, though Gunn and Safran later denied that they ever made an official Sgt. Rock-related offer to him. Craig is now believed to be in talks for a role in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia.
In addition to playing Oz, Farrell has starred in movies such as 2002’s Minority Report, 2003’s Daredevil, 2006’s Miami Vice, 2008’s In Bruges, 2011’s Fright Night, 2015’s The Lobster, 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, 2018’s Widows, 2021’s After Yang, 2022’s The Banshees of Inisherin, and many more.
A release date for Sgt. Rock has not yet been announced by DC Studios or Warner Bros. Pictures.
