Sega and Sonic Team held their annual Sonic Central broadcast on Tuesday, revealing the latest updates on Sonic the Hedgehog video games, merchandise, and the live-action movie and animated projects. There were plenty of collabs and crossovers as well, including tie-ins with Lego; visual artist Louis De Guzman; and video games Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, Roblox, and Two Point Museum.
But the most intriguing project on display was an upcoming crossover event with DC Comics that will star Sonic the Hedgehog and friends as classic Justice League heroes in a comic book series launching in 2025. Details were scant, but Sega’s Ivo Gerscovich revealed that, in addition to Shadow the Hedgehog taking on the role of Batman in the comic series, we’re getting the following DC super hero/furry cartoon animal mashups:
Writer Ian Flynn, known for his work on Archie Comics and IDW Publishing’s Sonic the Hedgehog comics, is helming the project. Flynn is working with an unannounced artist on the project, which was teased last week on “Batman Day.”
The DC Comics Sonic crossover will span five issues debuting in March 2025, as well as a collected edition of that series, Gerscovich said. He also announced that there’s still more to come in the form of apparel, accessories, and toys, with DC and Sega’s partnership extending into 2026.
You can catch up on the entire Sonic Central 2024 presentation at YouTube, but if you’re just here to see Amy in a Wonder Woman costume and/or Miles “Tails” Prower as Cyborg (certainly not the first time we’ve seen the twin-tailed fox in cybernetic form), check out the clip below.
