Batman Incorporated is one of the more unique teams in DC Comics. Bruce Wayne (Batman) created Batman Incorporated to extend his influence beyond Gotham, recruiting crime fighters and vigilantes from across the globe. Although Batman has been known to travel worldwide on many occasions, he can’t maintain his influence without these important members.

This list will examine the strongest Batman Incorporated members, excluding members of the Bat Family, like Nightwing, Robin, and Batman himself. What makes Batman Incorporated so interesting and unique is the wide array of members, from the self-explanatory Batman of Japan, a Japanese crime fighter, to the unusual Clown Hunter, a young boy from Gotham with a hatred for the Joker.

Clown Hunter

A Young Vigilante With A Special Hatred For The Joker

First Appearance – Batman Volume 3, #96 (2020)

Real Name – Bao Pham

Bao Pham, better known as Clown Hunter, formed a personal vendetta against the Joker after the Clown Prince of Crime killed his parents when he was only twelve years old. After spending the next five years watching the Joker tear through Gotham City, Bao had finally had enough and took matters into his own hands. As the Clown Hunter, Bao opted to use a baseball bat with a Batarang attached and hunted down and killed over 12 of Joker’s goons.

After Clown Hunter adopted a less violent crime-fighting style, Batman recruited him into Batman Incorporated. As a member of Batman Incorporated, Clown Hunter spent most of his time patrolling and protecting the Narrows, a run-down area in Gotham. Clown Hunter has exceptional hand-to-hand combat but relies heavily on more deadly weapons and traps, meaning he wasn’t as strong as he could be while he was a member of Batman Incorporated.

El Gaucho

Special Agent Turned Vigilante

Real Name – Santiago Vargas

Santiago Vargas, better known as El Gaucho, is a former member of Spyral, a UN Covert Operations Agency formed during the Cold War. During his time with Spyral, Vargas became an expert in hand-to-hand combat as well as espionage, sabotage, and marksmanship. After retiring from Spyral, Santiago Vargas was inspired by Batman and became El Gaucho.

As El Gaucho, he joined the International Club of Heroes, where he honed his crime-fighting skills. After the Club of Heroes disbanded, Gaucho continued his crime-fighting throughout Argentina, catching the eye of Batman, who later recruited him to Batman Incorporated.

Manhunter (Kate Spencer)

Former District Attorney Turned Into The 8th Manhunter

First Appearance – Batwoman Vol 2, #2 (2011)

Real Name – Kathrine Spencer

Feeling disappointed with the justice system, former district attorney, Kate Spencer, took the law into her own hands as Manhunter. After successfully blackmailing Dylan Battles, former weapon/equipment designer for Mr Freeze and the Joker, he created her a modified Darkstar suit, power baton, and other gadgets, greatly improving her crime-fighting skills.

Armed with her new suit and gadgets, Manhunter became a formidable crime fighter and helped keep the streets of Gotham safe, while also continuing to work in Law, even representing Wonder Woman in the case of the United States vs Wonder Woman. Although her time with Batman Incorporated was short-lived, she was a valuable and strong member.

Knight/Squire (Cyril Sheldrake)

The Medieval Style Batman

Real Name – Cyril Sheldrake

When Cyril Sheldrake and his father, Percy Sheldrake, were inspired by Batman and Robin, they decided to become vigilantes themselves, calling themselves the Knight (Percy) and the Squire (Cyril). After the death of his father, Cyril gave up crime-fighting altogether — until coming to his senses and taking up his father’s mantle, becoming the Knight.

As the Knight, Cyril and his new Squire, Beryl, joined the Ultramarine Corp, honing their skills and experience as fighters and soldiers. After leaving the Ultramarine Corp, and during the events of the Death of Batman, Knight relocated to Gotham and worked closely with Nightwing. On Batman’s return, Knight was later recruited into Batman Incorporated. Knight is equipped with magic-infused armor that offers him improved durability and is equipped with a Microwave Gun (a non-lethal weapon).

Nightrunner

The Sole Vigilante Of Paris

Real Name – Balal Asselah

Former student, Balal Asselah, took the law into his own hands after his best friend was brutally beaten to death by police officers in Paris. After his best friend’s death, Balal spent time learning hand-to-hand combat and parkour so he could act as a vigilante in Paris, hoping to spare anyone from enduring the same fate as his friend.

When Batman and Nightwing traveled to Paris in search of a new Batman Incorporated member, Nightrunner aided them when they were attacked by a group of assassins. Impressed with his parkour and crime-fighting abilities, Batman recruited Nightrunner. Nightwing went on to train Nightrunner, and when combining his newfound skills and his parkour abilities, he became a force to be reckoned with. Nightrunner was so good, in fact, that all other vigilantes in Paris retired, as they simply weren’t needed anymore.

Batwing (David Zavimbe)

The Original Batwing

First Appearance – Batwing #1 (2011)

Real Name – David Zavimbe

David Zavimbe is a former child soldier from the city of Tinasha. Thankfully, David managed to escape the military at a young age and joined the Tinisha Police Force in a bid to help put a stop to corruption and terrorist organizations. When Batman visits Tinasha, he is impressed by David Zavimbe and recruits him to Batman Incorporated.

In this timeline, David is the original Batwing, being gifted the Batwing suit by Batman after being inducted. Unlike the more popular Lucas Fox’s Batwing suit, David’s suit was much simpler, only offering flight, protection, and increased strength and durability. The suit alone is enough to rank David high on this list, but his military experience, police training, as well as personal training from Batman make him a formidable hero.

Batman Of Japan

The Dark Knight Of Tokyo

Real Name – Jiro Osamu

After taking up the mantle of Mister Unknown, Jiro Osamu is approached by Batman and asked to join Batman Incorporated. After faking his death, Jiro assumes the title of Batman Of Japan and continues where he left off as Mister Unknown. The Batman Of Japan was one of the first and longest-standing members of Batman Incorporated.

Although his detective skills aren’t anywhere near Batman’s level, Batman Of Japan has near-superhuman acrobatic skills, excellent hand-to-hand combat skills, and is a skilled electrical engineer, allowing him to make improvised EMPs (among other devices) on the fly. Like Batman, he is equipped with all the usual gadgets you’d expect, as well as a unique manga-inspired Batsuit.

Gray Wolf

The Batman Of Kazbek

First Appearance – Batman 22 Annual Vol 3, #1 (2022)

Real Name – Anzor

Gray Wolf is a Chechen hero who previously worked for Lex Luthor as the projector of Kazbek. When one of Lex’s experiments with Lazarus Resin went south, he departed Kazbek, leaving Gray Wolf to have to clean up his mess. Batman sends members of Batman Incorporated to investigate, and Ghost-Maker and Gray Wolf end up curing the residents of Kazbek, earning him a place in Batman Incorporated.

Gray Wolf is one of the best hand-to-hand combatants in Batman Incorporated, behind only Talon, Ghost-Maker, Batman himself, and other Bat Family members. On one occasion, Gray Wolf won a one vs three fight against Dark Ranger, El Gaucho, and Batman of Japan.

Talon (Calvin Rose)

The Talon That Left The Court Of Owls

First Appearance – Talon #0 (2012)

Real Name – Calvin Rose

After escaping his abusive father, Calvin Rose joined Haly’s Circus and soon became the world’s best escape artist. After performing a private show for the Court Of Owls, members of the Court were impressed and chose to take Calvin in and train him to become the next Talon. After years of training, Calvin eventually became the Talon and later received the Electrum treatment.

The Electrum treatment gave Talon superhuman healing, extreme pain resistance, and immortality. However, the immortality did wear off eventually. These powers alone are enough to make Talon one of the most powerful Batman Incorporated members, and with his skills in escapology, stealth, and hand-to-hand combat, he could even give Batman a good fight.

Ghost-Maker

The Man That Trained With Bruce Wayne

Real Name – Minhkhoa “Khoa” Khan

Minhkhoa Khan was just a young boy when he saw his mother killed and family company torn apart by the Midas crime family. After swearing revenge on the Midas family, Minhkhoa set out to learn all he could in the art of crime fighting and martial arts. Coincidentally, at the same time, Bruce Wayne was doing the same thing.

During his training, Minhkhoa and Bruce became close friends and trained together for years. Even after parting ways, they often encountered each other at training camps across the globe. After solidifying himself as a world-renowned vigilante, Ghost-Maker would later be inducted into Batman Incorporated and eventually become their leader when Bruce stepped down. Having essentially the same level of skill as Batman without his No Kill Rule, Ghost-Maker is one of the best and most dangerous hand-to-hand combatants in all of DC Comics. Ghost-Maker has since been inducted into the Bat Family, but years after his time with Batman Incorporated.
