Previously, DC Comics announced a Summer of Superman to build to the release of upcoming feature film. Now, DC has announced a Superman Day event, set on the anniversary of the Man of Steel’s first appearance. The publisher has also announced some of the comics being produced as part of the initiative.

Chief among these is a reprint of the first issue of Action Comics #1. This comic contained the first Superman story by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster in 1938. This special facsimile edition will be printed in the classic “Golden Age” size specifications. It will also feature a new cover by artist Dan Mora, paying tribute to the original Action Comics cover.

In addition to the Action Comics #1 reprint, a new Summer of Superman Special will be published as part of the event. The comic will feature stories written by Dan Slott, Mark Waid, and Joshua Williamson, with art by Jorge Jiménez. The special will detail the wedding of Lana Lang and John Henry Irons, and set the stage for the next age of the Man of Steel’s adventures.

DC will also be publishing special editions of several classic Superman stories. Some are exclusive to participating booksellers and on-line retailers. Others are exclusive to participating comic book shops.

The bookseller and on-line exclusive titles include a hardcover edition of All-Star Superman. This graphic novel by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely is reportedly a major inspiration for the upcoming movie. The new edition features a dust jacket with new art by Quitely. Similarly, there is a new hardcover edition of Superman Unchained, with a dust jacket featuring new art by Jim Lee.

The comic book shop exclusive titles include a reprint of All Star Superman #1. There is also a special edition of Superman For All Seasons: Book One, by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Finally, for young adults, there will be preview excerpts of Jimmy Olsen’s Supercyclopedia by Gabe Soria and Sandy Jarrell.

Superman Day will be celebrated at comic shops everywhere on April 18, 2025.
