Warning: Spoilers for Action Comics #1078
Superman may be the Earth’s most renowned Kryptonian, but he’s far from the only one, as he has a family of superheroes – including Supergirl and Superboy – by his side to aid him in battle. However, his latest villain has found a way to take away their main energy source. The Super-Family has become powerless, making Superman the last Kryptonian standing.
The preview for Action Comics #1078 by Mark Waid, Clayton Henry, Michael Shelfer, Matt Herms, and Dave Sharpe continues the weekly “Phantoms” storyline that’s sent Superman to the depths of the Phantom Zone. The members of Superman’s hero family are doing what they can to defend the Earth in his absence, but their powers are fading fast as the Sun is drained by Aethyr.
The Super-Family heroes no longer have powers, which means Superman is the only Kryptonian on Earth who still possesses his superpowers and thus the only one who can save his planet from Aethyr’s destructive expansion of the Phantom Zone.
Superman’s Heroic Family Members Have Lost Their Kryptonian Abilities
Supergirl, Superboy, and the Rest of the Super-Family Are Powerless
Aethyr is attempting to make the Phantom Zone a more deadly punishment for its inhabitants than ever, and to do so, he is draining the Earth’s sun – inadvertently turning the Phantom Zone into the ultimate anti-Superman weapon. Without the energy from the yellow sun to draw from, the Kryptonians of Earth are stripped of their superpowers, demonstrated by their struggle to push Grax’s ship away from the planet. Superman’s trip to the Phantom Zone has left the Earth under the protection of heroes like Super-Man and Superboy, but they’ve now been left powerless and unable to perform their usual feats.
Superman Is Set to Risk Another Flashpoint With His Most Selfish Move in DC History
Superman tries to prevent his birth parents’ death in the destruction of Krypton, potentially endangering the entire DC Universe by rewriting history.
The Super-Family has already been facing upheavals to their abilities prior to the Phantom Zone’s corruption. Supergirl has already lost her heat vision, for instance, and now she and her allies are at an equal tactical disadvantage. Deprived of their superpowers, Superman’s family members all plummet to the ground after their strained efforts to prevent Grax from blowing up the planet. Luckily, Superman swoops in just in time to rescue them. His ability to fly and carry them all with his super-strength, despite the lack of a yellow sun, shows that Superman has become the only true Kryptonian left on Earth.
Superman Is Officially the Earth’s Only Remaining Kryptonian Hero
But The Man of Steel’s Powers May Not Last Much Longer, Either
As his allies lose their powers, Superman’s solar gauntlets let him retain his Kryptonian abilities without the presence of his power source. However, his gauntlets can only last so long, as evidenced by him having no superpowers on Krypton when they ran out of battery. Superman is the Earth’s final line of defense against Aethyr, and he’ll have to take him out while his gauntlets still function. The Earth and the Phantom Zone hang in the balance, and Superman must use the little power he has left to save both – without the help of Supergirl, Superboy, and the rest of the Super-Family.
Action Comics #1078 will be available December 4th, 2024 from DC Comics!
