Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

April 18 is Superman Day and the date didn’t go unnoticed by the creators behind the upcoming “Superman” blockbuster. DC Studios dropped a brand new teaser primarily of behind the scenes footage with interview clips from the cast and crew. We also get some brand new looks at Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. You can watch the teaser below.

It’s a welcome chance to see a bit more of the two characters. Other than Superman himself and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, we haven’t gotten a lot of chances for different looks at the other heroes.

Merced recently talked to Entertainment Weekly about her experience making “Superman”, and she colored it as a much more positive experience than making the Sony Spiderverse film, “Madame Web”. She said a large reason for that was because everyone was suffering in supersuits, so they all worked together to help each other out. “We all were going through it together,” she said. “We’d use fans on each other to make sure we weren’t hot on the summer days where we’d be in harnesses in the middle of in Cleveland.”

Merced told EW that she was in a harness more than pretty much anyone else on set, except for David Corenswet himself. But, unlike the trials and tribulations of working in supersuits, dealing with the harness was one of the bonuses for Merced.

“Every scene I’m flying, pretty much,” she said. “But it’s cool because I’m an adrenaline seeker. I like being dropped from really high heights. It’s actually one of my favorite things.”

Most of what we see in the teaser is recognizable from the other teasers and TV spots, but along with the new looks at Hawkgirl and Metamorpho, there are some other new, interesting things to see. For example, at one minute, thirteen seconds, James Gunn is in what appears to be the interior of some kind of high-tech vehicle. Later, at one minute and thirty-nine seconds, there’s a man encased in some kind of futuristic-looking armor emerging from an opening bathed in sparks.

“Superman” releases in theaters on July 11. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. “Superman” stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
