Warning! Spoilers ahead for Absolute Superman #6!DC Comics’ newest Superman hasn’t had an easy life and his escape from Krypton proves to be one of the most harrowing things he’s ever experienced. Absolute Superman has shown fans the events that shaped this version of the Man of Steel, and his origin is far darker than anything the Prime Kal-El went through.
In a preview for Absolute Superman #6 by Jason Aaron and Carmine Di Giandomenico, a young Kal-El has been separated from his parents after Krypton blew up. He spends the next year and a half in his spaceship and his Sol armor and the endless voyage across the stars is driving Kal-El mad.
After traveling nine million light-years away from Krypton, Kal-El has grown despondent enough to give up completely. He asks that Sol dump him out into the nearest star, but just as Kal-El notices the sun, his powers kick in while Sol finally discovers a habitable world.
Absolute Superman Was This Close to Giving Up After Escaping Krypton
A Year and a Half of Isolation Almost Destroyed Him
Everything’s upside down in the Absolute Universe that Darkseid helped shape. His energy made things more trying than ever, completely changing the lives of DC’s iconic heroes. In Superman’s case, he actually knew his parents on Krypton and lived on his home planet until he was a boy. Unfortunately, he also lived long enough to see how corruption and greed destroyed his planet, preventing his people from being truly able to save themselves. His parents did create an escape vessel, but it was fractured during their escape from Krypton, leaving Kal-El alone as his ship searched for a new home.
Due to the Absolute Universe’s corrupted nature, things are worse for DC’s heroes. The one fortunate thing about Superman’s past in the Prime Universe was that he was too young to remember the explosion or the long journey to Earth. But this Kal-El knew his parents and was separated from them during the most painful experience of his life. To make matters worse, he spent months trapped in a ship, never knowing if he was ever going to find a habitable world. The Prime Clark has had his troubles, but nothing as bad as what Absolute Superman has gone through.
What Other Horrific Changes Have Been Made to Absolute Superman’s Past?
And How Have They Changed the Man of Steel?
At the beginning of Absolute Superman, fans meet a Kal-El who is haunted by the experiences he’s gone through, to the point where he’s almost broken. But there’s still a good few years before these flashbacks catch up to his current age. It’s not unlikely that even more tragedy is hidden in Absolute Superman’s past once he makes it to Earth. This version of Kal-El has already been through so many trying events, but it’s very possible that things are only about to get worse for Superman from here.
Absolute Superman #6 is available on April 2nd from DC Comics.
