BIg things are on the horizon for Superman’s son as he’s not only getting a new look but a new ‘Trinity’-like team. Jon Kent has been through a lot in his life, but one DC writer hints that the Kryptonian’s adventures are just beginning in a series of teases on social media.
Nicole Maines, writer behind Suicide Squad: Dream Team and the recent one-shot Absolute Power: Super Son, posted a series of teaser images on the social media site Bluesky. These artworks featured characters such as Nia Nal and Jay Nakamura, wearing updated versions of their superhero outfits.
Maines also posted an image of Jonathan Kent wearing a stylish new Superman outfit that swaps his usual blue for black and appears to have a more armored appearance. Maines also posted a message on Bluesky detailing how she will “keep fighting” for Jon Kent truthers and that she won’t be silenced.
DC Writer Teases New Costumes For Superman Jon Kent and Team
Is DC Comics Going All In on a New Trinity?
Jon Kent has had one of the oddest and most harrowing paths in the DCU. Debuting in Convergence, Superman’s son served as Superboy for DC Comics’ “Rebirth” period and became a fan-favorite (largely due to the Super Sons title he shared with Damian Wayne). However, Jon was kidnapped by Ultraman and spent several years on Earth-3, returning to his home world several years older. Now old enough to shoulder more responsibility, he took his father’s role as Earth’s Superman while Clark left the planet to liberate Warworld, and since then, Superman’s son has served admirably as a Man of Steel.
There’s no concrete information about a new Jon Kent-focused book, but Maines’ posts do stoke one’s curiosity. After all, Maines left a pretty big cliffhanger regarding Jon, Jay, and Nia in her Absolute Power tie-in comic, mostly centering around the unresolved drama between Jay and Dreamer (who helped get Jay’s mom killed). Though it’s hard to determine whether a new book is on the horizon, a new story focusing on these three would be a great direction for all of them (especially Jon Kent, who needs somewhere to go for the DC All In era).
DC Has a Great Opportunity For a Trinity With Drama
A Superman Jon Kent Love Triangle on the Horizon?
Despite the drama between Jay and Dreamer, both of them have feelings for Jon. Love triangles might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a classic source of drama and one that could be interesting to follow. Does this next generation of heroes tear themselves apart over their past mistakes and feelings? Or do they put them aside and work them out to become a Trinity that rivals the dynamic of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman? Anything is possible for the young Superman, but it all comes down to what Maines is teasing with these new costumes.
Superman
The icon who launched the entire world of superheroes, the last son of Krypton escaped his dying world to crash land on Earth and be raised as Clark Kent. The world knows him better as Superman, the Man of Steel, the leader of the Justice League, and the most well-known hero in the DC Comics Universe. Blessed with the powers of a demigod, Kal-El of Krypton fights enemies both small and cosmic in his endless pursuit of truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.
