With the announcement that the iconic teen team of the DC Comics universe is going to be getting a film adaption for James Gunn‘s DCU, people are pretty excited about the potential heroes that could be included in the team. Teen Titans is one of the most popular comic book shows of all time, so it’s safe to say that a lot of people will be going to theaters to see Ana Nogueira‘s interpretation of the iconic team of young heroes. This list will rank the best potential members of the DCU’s Teen Titans based on their characterization, power set, and how likely it is to see them in live-action. It’s safe to say that most of the usual members of the team will be part of the Teen Titans team in the upcoming film, so they will not be included in the list of potentials. Indeed, Robin and Starfire are pretty obvious picks already. However, a plethora of other teen/young adult superheroes could jump into the DCU through this project.

Miss Martian (M’gann M’orzz)

Seen in: ‘Young Justice’ (2010)

Image via DC Comics

Right behind Teen Titans, Young Justice is the next most popular adaption of a young group of DC heroes venturing on their own. It’s also one of the most popular comic book series ever made. People adored this adaption of the DC Universe, and one of the team members pretty exclusive to Young Justice is M’gann M’orzz (Danica McKellar), AKA Miss Martian. She’s a Season 1 founding member with a unique array of powers and a compelling personality.

Miss Martian could be a direct connection to the Justice League should the DCU bring Martian Manhunter onto the team. M’gann is the extra-terrestrial superhero’s niece and was directly trained under him when it came to operating on Earth. If the DCU really wanted to emphasize the common theme of young heroes connected to the League, and wanted to also pay homage to Young Justice, Miss Martian is a great addition.

Artemis/Tigress (Artemis Crock)

Seen in: ‘Young Justice’ (2010)

Image via DC Entertainment/Warner Bros. Animation

Another Young Justice core member is Artemis (Stephanie Lemelin), a hero who started as a sidekick to Green Arrow (Alan Tudyk) and eventually became Tigress later in her career. After the mass success of the Arrowverse through Arrow, fans have been wondering when Green Arrow would be making his way to the big screen for the first time.

With how Gunn seems to be handling his DC universe, one can expect characters like Oliver Queen and his protégé, Artemis, to jump into the DCU fold. Whether she’s in her Artemis or Tigress era, this young hero would be a great fit for the Teen Titans, especially if they decide to bring in the story elements they explored in Young Justice, where she deals with her family’s criminal legacy and the loss of her partner. Speaking of which, Artemis’ criminal family would also make great additions to this new universe.

Impulse (Bart Allen)

Seen in: ‘The Flash’ (2014)

Image via The CW

Everyone knows Barry Allen and Wally West, but fewer people are aware of Bart Allen, the young man from the future who is the teen hero Impulse. It’s safe to assume that with the presence of Damien Wayne in the upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold DCU film, Wally West is much older than he would be during his time as Kid Flash, meaning he has far less of a chance of joining the Teen Titans than this speedster from the future.

Speedsters are extremely popular across the superhero cinema space, so it would make total sense if the DCU wanted a Flash-type character in the Teen Titans. If that’s the case, then Impulse would be the logical choice. While he was another member of Young Justice, most people probably know him during his tenure on The Flash, where he was played by the ever-talented Jordan Fisher and made for an excellent member of Team Flash.

Wonder Girl (Donna Troy)

Seen in: ‘Titans’ (2018)

Image via DC Comics

Many people have no idea that Wonder Woman has a sidekick of sorts. Donna Troy is a crucial member of the DC universe, however. While she’s the most well-known for her involvement in Titans, she’s so much more than being that character who was featured on that one mediocre-at-best show. She does make cameos and small appearances in Teen Titans, Young Justice, Teen Titans Go! and several DC animated movies.

Donna is far cooler than people realize, though. She’s even the current leader of the Titans in the John Layman run of the 2024 Titans comic book series at DC Comics. Wonder Girl would make such a great addition to the Teen Titans of the DCU, as long as the movie doesn’t make her the same age as Nightwing would be. Even if she was older, however, she could serve as a great moral leader of the team.

Superboy (Conner Kent or Jon Kent)

Seen in:’Young Justice’ (2010) & ‘Superman & Lois’ (2021)

Image via DC Comics

Every team, regardless of the superhero universe, needs their tank—their heavy-hitter—to provide both defense and heavy offense. If any type of hero in the DC world is a tank, it’s someone in the Superman family of heroes. Superboy is an iconic teen hero in DC, and there are actually two options for characters that could take this mantle.

The contenders areConner Kent, the man-made clone of Superman, or Jon Kent, the biological son of the Big Blue Boy Scout. Both Kent boys offer different stories that could be perfect, dynamic additions to the DCU and the Teen Titans. Everyone adores both iterations of the all-powerful hero, thanks to their appearances in Young Justice and the iconic Superman & Lois. Jon was actually one of the best characters on Superman & Lois, meaning he’s already somewhat known by audiences.

Arsenal/Speedy (Roy Harper)

Seen in: ‘Arrow’ (2012)

If James Gunn and Ana Nogueira don’t decide to bring Artemis into the fold, the most well-known and classic Green Arrow sidekick is Roy Harper, AKA Arsenal. Not only does he have great canonical relationships with the classic Teen Titans members, but the plot that he’s most identified for, his drug issues, could bring some incredible and grounded drama into the upcoming film.Roy Harper is a very compelling character in so many ways and could even serve as the emotional core of the film if written correctly. The Colton Haynes adaption of the character in Arrow is where most people know him from, but he’s also a huge character in Young Justice, where he provided some great plot and a sobering story about overcoming the past and finding one’s self again. The red-clad archer is far more of a core Teen Titans member than many realize.

Before the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman didn’t nearly get the correct amount of recognition that he deserved from the general public. Now that he has, however, it’s the perfect time to bring one of his two sidekicks into the next DC film universe. Indeed, Kaldur’ahm and Garth are both perfect additions to make the upcoming Teen Titans team even more dynamic.

While Garth has been around the longest, Kaldur’ahm definitely is the most popular of the two, thanks to his main character role in Young Justice. Still, both iterations can work and add unique power sets to the Teen Titans. Aquaman has always added one of the most special collections of abilities to the Justice League, so it makes sense that bringing one of his mentees into the teen team would do the same. He’s such a special character that there are talks of an origin series being produced at Max.

Terra (Tara Markov)

Seen in: ‘Teen Titans’ (2003)

Image via Warner Bros. Animated

The most popular Teen Titans story is, easily, “The Judas Contract,” which includes one of the most iconic betrayals in the DC world courtesy of the antihero/tragic hero, Tera. It was one of the best, most emotionally charged arcs in the Teen Titans animated series, as well. It’s unlikely that the first DCU Teen Titans movie will adapt this story right off the bat, butif they wanted to build up to it for a second or third film, they could include Terra on the team.

Terra’s powers are also super fun to play with on film, having the ability of geokinesis, which allows her to have telekinetic-like control over rocks and earth. She also opens up the doors to bring the groundbreaking Deathstroke, who never got the shot he deserved in the DCEU, so this could serve as a redemption for the character, too. Terra could also bring in a new love interest for Beast Boy, changing up the typical Beast Boy/Raven relationship.

Seen in: ‘Static Shock’ (2000)

Image via Warner Bros. Animation

Everyone who knows about him loves the one and only Static. Virgil Hawkins means a lot to so many people, so bringing him into the Teen Titans would be a really, truly impactful choice. Fans have been waiting for Static to make his appearance in a live-action flick for decades. With how much respect James Gunn seems to have for the entire DC Comics world, there is, hopefully, a good chance that he finally gets his chance on the big screen.

His series from 2000, Static Shock, was a gigantic hit among both kids and adults and is still regarded to this very day. Static Shock’s electric powers would provide absolutely electric visuals that would light up the world’s screens. Virgil and his origin story also offer a plethora of amazing representation, which is why he’s such an important character to so many.

Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes)

Seen in: ‘Blue Beetle’ (2023)

One of the most recent standout young heroes in cinema is none other than Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), the titular character in Blue Beetle. While not many went to see this awesome superhero movie, it did very well on digital and was extremely successful with critics and audiences. Indeed, the film’s success was enough for James Gunn to say Maridueña would be returning as Blue Beetle in the upcoming DCU.

Not many other heroes are getting the chance to come back with the same actor who portrayed them before Gunn took over, which is a testament to how great Blue Beetle was and how much people love the character. It would be such an easy insert, as well, given the fact he’s already coming back and has been firmly established to cinema audiences.
