Robert Pattinson will return for The Batman – Part II, but he will not be joined by a DC character who would have been perfect for the movie. While the new DC Universe will cast its own Batman for The Brave and the Bold film, director Matt Reeves will continue his plans for a trilogy starring Pattinson’s Batman, as well as other spinoffs under DC’s Elseworlds banner, outside the DCU canon. So far, no The Batman – Part II story details have been revealed.
That is not surprising, as the movie has been delayed. The Batman – Part II has moved back from 2025 to 2026 due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, with Reeves needing more time to work on the sequel’s script before filming can start. Since production will begin early next year, the end of 2024 should include multiple casting announcements for The Batman – Part II. Characters like the Penguin, Catwoman, Jim Gordon, and more should return, with exciting Batman characters from DC Comics debuting. However, a major player will be absent from the anticipated DC movie, and that is a missed opportunity.

James Gunn Debunked A Dick Grayson Rumor
Robin Will Not Be Appearing In The Batman – Part II
The Batman universe is set early in Bruce Wayne’s career as Gotham City’s Dark Knight. In the comics, Dick Grayson, Batman’s first Robin, debuted around that time. Dick came to Detective Comics in April 1940, a year after Batman’s debut in March 1939. The characters have been linked ever since, with the original Robin being the biggest beacon of light in the Dark Knight’s life. However, it seems that Pattinson’s Batman will either not have a Robin or will have to wait longer to get one.
The Batman
universe’s dark and grounded tone might complicate matters when it comes to introducing Dick Grayson as Robin.
The reason for that is DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn debunked a rumor that Dick Grayson would appear in The Batman – Part II. The rumor in question also included many Batman villains who were said to make an appearance in the movie, including Clayface, Hush, Professor Pyg, and Scarecrow. According to Gunn, the rumor is “totally made up.” The Batman universe’s dark and grounded tone might complicate matters when it comes to introducing Dick Grayson as Robin, who would have fit in with the original movie’s ending.

The New DCU Batman Movie Is More Exciting To Me Than The Batman 2 For One Major Reason
I’m more excited about the DCU’s The Brave and the Bold than Robert Pattinson’s The Batman – Part II because of something only the first should do.
The Batman Set Up Robin’s Debut Perfectly
Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight Is Different Now
At the start of The Batman, Pattinson’s Dark Knight brutally beats down a criminal and says, “I’m vengeance.” Batman has a lot of pent-up anger, which the character lets out against enemies. After spending the film as a punitive force, The Batman‘s ending transformed the character.
Saving the people of Gotham City from the flood, Batman goes from a figure that is feared by everyone to one that gives citizens hope. Dick Grayson would have been the perfect follow-up to that, with The Batman – Part II showing a lighter Bruce Wayne, but that opportunity has been missed.
