Warning: Spoilers for JSA #1The Justice Society of America is one of DC’s more underrated teams despite their long and storied history. Despite their plentiful contributions over the years, the Justice League overshadows them as the premier super-team. Now, DC has officially confirmed that the Justice Society is the most important team in its lore, granting this classic team the spotlight it deserves.

The preview for JSA #1 by Jeff Lemire, Diego Olortegui, Luis Guerrero, and Steve Wands sets the stage for the Justice Society’s next adventure by providing some background about the team. The narration begins by stating that they were DC’s first team, having emerged during World War II when the world was in desperate need of heroes to shine a light in dark times. Since then, the Justice Society of America has expanded with varying line-ups of heroes young and old, and they’ve now come back better than ever for DC’s All In era.

With the affirmation that they were the ones who paved the way for every hero that succeeded them, this serves as proof that the Justice Society of America has contributed more to the DC Universe than any other team – and that includes the Justice League.

DC Confirms the JSA’s Major Role in DC Lore

The Justice League has long enjoyed the status of DC’s most prominent team, but the Justice Society is back to reclaim that status at last. As stated in the narration of the above preview, “Everything you know, all your heroes, sprang from them.” This line alone cements that the Justice Society is the blueprint that has preceded every other team in DC lore. If it weren’t for the Justice Society, there wouldn’t be a Justice League at all, as the latter exists because of the former. While the Justice League has become more widely renowned, the JSA established what a superhero team looks like.
