Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Penguin episode 1
Surprisingly, The Penguin doesn’t include any DC logo despite the fact that DC Studios recently unveiled a new one. On July 26, 2024, DC Studios revealed its new company logo, which takes inspiration from the emblem DC Comics used from 1976 to 2005. This logo is probably the most famous in DC Comics’ history, and it will represent the brand on the big and the small screen from 2024 onward.
Right from the start of episode 1, The Penguin‘s cast and plot are clearly established, with Oz Cobb killing Carmine Falcone’s son in a sudden fit of rage, which leads him to cross paths with other veteran Gotham criminals, such as Sofia Falcone and Sal Maroni. The Penguin also drops some references to The Batman and Gotham’s corner of DC Comics lore. However, The Penguin is missing one major element that’s usually the first thing most DC projects present before the plot kicks off.

The Penguin Skips DC Studios’ New Logo Despite Its Recent Announcement
After a brief shot of the HBO logo, The Penguin opens with a summary of the events that took place in The Batman‘s epic ending and a massive reveal that sends the titular villain down a dangerous road. The story continues with Oz Cobb recruiting Victor Aguilar and making other questionable decisions. Remarkably, The Penguin doesn’t feature any opening credits or any DC logo, which is also absent during the end credits.

Most DC movies have included a DC logo or an animated DC-themed intro. Two exceptions have been Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984. According to Shazam! director David F. Sandberg, he omitted the DC logo in the 2019 DCEU movie accidentally. Director Patty Jenkins never addressed the reason why Wonder Woman 1984 doesn’t have a DC logo, but it might have been the same as Shazam!. Since then, both DCEU movies have added the logo in their streaming and digital formats.
The Penguin Is The First Release Of DC Studios’ New Era, So Where’s The Logo?
DC Studios May Want To Keep Matt Reeves’ The Batman Franchise Clearly Separate From The DCU
Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise is an official part of DC Studios even though it isn’t canon to James Gunn’s DCU. Its continuity is regarded as an Elseworld s universe, but projects such as The Penguin and The Batman – Part II fall under the same brand. Perhaps the new DC Studios logo is absent from The Penguin in order to avoid confusing casual audiences who may not be familiar with the intricacies of DC’s recent changes. It’s also possible that the logo’s animation doesn’t fit The Penguin‘s grounded tone. The Batman‘s lack of DC logo supports this possibility.
