Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! We’re now entering month two of DC’s “All In” and I still think that they’re in a really strong position. I dunno, maybe I’m still just still a bit hyped up from getting to attend all the announcement panels at NYCC. Certainly not every title has been a winner, but overall it’s been a really solid lineup. If they can continue like this then the comics will be in a better place than they’ve been in at least about a decade. If they can’t then I’m sorry for jinxing it.
Upcoming Comics
Absolute Batman #2
Batman was born out of violence – a horrible tragedy that shaped the trajectory of his future. But when a vigilant MI6 agent starts tracking the lonely life of Bruce Wayne, he discovers the interconnectivity between a hero’s shell life and the many layers of the Black Mask Gang. It’s Batman versus Alfred Pennyworth!
Written By: Scott Snyder
Art By: Nick Dragotta
Thoughts: This characterization of Alfred is one of the things I rolled my eyes at the most when it was revealed, but I’ve been really happy with what we’ve actually seen so far.

Batman and Robin #15
What should have been a run-of-the-mill charity banquet for Bruce and Damian has, quite literally, gone up in flames—and now, without access to their costumes and gadgets, father and son find themselves fighting for their lives at the hands of the mysterious specter known only as Memento. But who is this new villain who set the blaze that threatens to disintegrate the Dynamic Duo, why does it replicate an infamous, century-old tragedy from Gotham’s history, and what is Memento’s connection to the Dark Knight’s past? Nothing can prepare you for the answers to these questions, so join us and bear witness to “Memento,” part two.
Written By: Phillip Kennedy Johnson
Art By: Javi Fernandez, Carmine Di Giandomenico
Thoughts: I was not super impressed with the opening issue of this run, but I’m still invested enough to keep checking it out for now.
Batman News Critic: Chris
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age #6
As threats from the past resurface in his present, Batman must work alongside strange new heroes to save the day—including the steel-hearted sheriff of Small-ville, Kansas! The Kryptonian Age may have come to a close, but an age of justice has only just begun!
Written By: Andy Diggle
Art By: Leandro Fernandez
Thoughts: Depending on how DC feels about sales for this series (which have generally been pretty good), that last sentence certainly implies to me that we’ll be seeing a follow-up series focusing on a Victorian Justice League.
Batman News Critic: Chip
Batman: Dark Age #6
Gotham appears to be saved, but for how long? A face from Gotham’s past emerges from the ashes, and the Anti-Monitor threatens to destroy everything. Bruce Wayne looks back across the years and wonders if it was all for nothing.
Written By: Mark Russell
Art By: Michael Allred
Thoughts: The way Allred’s drawn Batman for that cover art sure is something, huh?
Batman News Critic: Akash
DC vs Vampires: World War V #4
Gorilla Grodd and Aquaman have had little luck capturing the elusive Damian Wayne, but a mysterious figure arrives bearing a whispered prophecy that could turn the tide of war in their favor. Elsewhere, John Constantine might well be the human resistance’s last hope…just a shame he can’t remember what it was he was meant to be doing. Enter The Spectre to help guide his way! And in the shadows, a new Batman lurks…but what’s his connection to Bruce Wayne?
Written By: Matthew Rosenberg, Matthew K. Manning
Art By: Otto Schmidt, Acky Bright
Thoughts: If there wer something to get me interested in this series again, a vampire gorilla might be it.
Batman News Critic: Akash

Ratings
Most Excited: Absolute Batman #2– I was very skeptical going into the first issue, but I was extremely impressed with what Snyder created.
Least Excited: DC vs Vampires: World War V #4– In my opinion this premise has long since run its course.
Wild Card: Batman and Robin #15– PKJ still has plenty of time to impress me.
Well that’s it for this week! Let us know in the comments what comics you’re looking forward to.
