The Justice League is just one of many superhero teams in the DC Universe. In addition to teams like the Birds of Prey, the Justice Society of America, and the Titans, there are also alternate-universe versions of the League that are distinct from the mainstream team. One of these alternate versions has met a brutal and heartbreaking end, made even more devastating by the fact that it is a fan-favorite iteration of DC’s premier superhero team.

Mark Russell and Jon Mikel return with the grand finale of their Booster Gold-centric story, Time Jerks, in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #15. This time-traveling adventure saw Michael Carter encounter the Jurassic League, a dinosaur version of the Justice League.

After inadvertently causing the extinction of the human race, and then saving the human race, Booster Gold teams up with the Justice League to prevent an asteroid from hitting Earth. However, their mission takes a turn when Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman are sent back in time, arriving just as the Jurassic League is in the midst of the mass extinction of the dinosaurs.

As lava surrounds him and Batman, Batsaur somberly declares, “It’s hopeless. This world is done.

With the arrival of Booster Gold and the urging of the Jurassic League, the Trinity returns to the present time. The focus then shifts to Batsaur, Supersaur, and Wonderdon as they watch their world come to an end. In their final moments, the trio engages in one of the most powerful and heartbreaking conversations ever featured in a comic. As they see their world being consumed by ash and flames, Batsaur solemnly states, “We failed.” Wonderdon tries to provide comfort with, “We did what we could,” but Batsaur’s despair remains, as he retorts, “And what did we accomplish?” It is Supersaur’s response that makes the moment truly profound: “Everything that comes after.
