After two feature films and an animated series, DC Comic’s super-villians are back again but this time in a Japanese anime form.

Suicide Squad Isekai has been unleashed on the world by Warner Bros, Japan and WIT Studio and has already aired in the US.

In the fictional, crime-ridden city of Gotham, Amanda Waller has assembled a group of notorious criminals, including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface and King Shark.

Sent through a portal into another world (Isekai) of swords, magic, orcs rampaging and dragons, they have 72 hours to complete a dangerous mission – where failure is not an option.

Directed by Eri Osada, the 10-episode series is written by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara, with character designs by Akira Amano and Naoto Hosoda.

Suicide Squad Isekai premiered the first three of its episodes on Thursday 27 June in the US and is now streaming on Max and Hulu channels.

Episodes will then be aired weekly, with the fourth episode launching on 4 July and the 10th and final episode streaming on 15 August.

However, neither of these channels are available in the UK at present.

So to catch up with the squad in anime form, fans will have to use a VPN to access the channels.

The cast of the new anime series features a host of familiar faces for DC Comics fans.

The anime voice cast includes:

Anna Nagase as Harley Quinn
Yūichirō Umehara as The Joker
Reigo Yamaguchi as Deadshot
Takehito Koyasu as Peacemaker
Jun Fukuyama as Clayface
Subaru Kimura as King Shark
Taku Yashiro as Rick Flag
Kujira as Amanda Waller
Chika Anzai as Katana
Reina Ueda as Fione
Mamiko Noto as Aldora
Jun Fukushima as Cecil

The details for the English dub cast have not yet been revealed.

Suicide Squad Isekai is based on the team of anti-heroes from the original DC Comics.

They are a crack team of super-villians recruited from jail to work on behalf of the American government on secret and highly dangerous missions.

There have been two major feature films based on the adventures of the squad, released in 2016 and 2021, and there has been a HBO series.

Although originally a Japanese production with a Japanese cast, the series has been dubbed into English for the US audience.

One social media user wrote they were surprised to find that even Harley’s Brooklyn accent had been included in the dub.
